Abstract The article observes that women's rights politics in the United Nations are caught full-scale polarization between feminist and conservative non-governmental organizations (NGOs), particularly visible their fights over institutional spaces language. It then sets out to elucidate process by which this came about. first ties it specific reasons for NGOs entered UN; namely, intent halt reverse progress of rights. Next, has given birth a style NGOs' advocacy: backlash advocacy. This advocacy differs from regular does not target only UN decision-makers, but also rival NGO group its normative record. Polarization results defensively reciprocating attack. contributes literature on international organization (IO)–NGO relations specifying why NGOs, considered unlikely IO utilizers, end up actively using showing diversification utilization can have detrimental rather than positive effects. invites be more aware political dynamic now entraps them, tailor future strategies accordingly.
